We played GFHC 2nd XI early on Sunday morning. Very early on Sunday morning. The game was played like it was very early on Sunday morning as well. First half was shaky for Rye, we struggled in retaining possession and frequently allowed Greenwich to counter attack straight down the centre following a basic error. Fortunately the defence held together well and limited clear cut chances to score against Olli to a minimum. Rye broke the deadlock though what is now a trademark reverse stick finish from Abdel and had a few other good chances to add some daylight. However, some games seem destined to remain close. Greenwich maintaining a lot of possession in the midfield and probably not deserving to be behind.

The second half was more end to end. Both teams seemed unable to craft clear cut chances with both defences continuing to easily break down their opponent’s attacks.Rye did look to have an advantage on set piece and took advantage to make it 2-0 through Alex G on a penalty corner. This was enough to secure the win and Rye retained enough composure to see out the remaining minutes. A good competitive game between two sides trying to play hockey hockey too soon after Saturday night. Paul had a good game being asked to fill in on the right side of defence.
